When I make these banana chocolate chip muffins, they don’t last long! I always make a big batch, so feel free to cut the recipe below in half if you don’t want two dozen muffins.
I make extra banana chocolate chip muffins and bring them to work or to my neighbors! Seriously, one of my favorite things to do is to walk around the neighborhood with Kooper and Ollie and deliver treats to my neighbors. I don’t know why, but it brings me so much joy! It also helps that many of our neighbors are actually our friends too.
I’ve made a LOT of banana muffins in my day because I won’t throw ripe bananas away. When I say a lot, I mean a LOT… maybe 20+ different types. These are by far my favorite because they are moist, aren’t too sweet, and have perfectly distributed mini chocolate chips. And to top it off (literally), the streusel topping just takes them to another level. You can use this streusel recipe for the topping of any muffin.
Anyway, these are a big hit- enjoy! If you make these muffins, tag me on instagram @kristinekirstein and follow me for more delicious recipes and treats! Or check out the sweet treats section on my blog.
Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins Recipe & Ingredients
Ingredients for Muffins
- 5-6 ripe bananas (mashed)
- 1.5 sticks butter (melted)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1.5 cups of sugar (I used raw sugar)
- 3 eggs
- 2 3/4 cups of flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup mini choc chips
Ingredients for Streusel Topping
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter (softened)
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
Muffin
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 muffin tins with cupcake liners.
- Pro Tip: If you think 24 muffins is too many, consider freezing half of them or spread kindness by delivering them to your neighbors. You may also cut this recipe in half.
- Mix all of the wet ingredients + sugar.
- Mix all of the dry ingredients – the chocolate chips.
- Combine the wet + dry ingredients and mix well.
- Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
- Fill muffin tins with batter and make the streusel topping!
- Pro Tip: You don’t have to add the streusel topping, but it really kicks these up a notch!
Streusel Topping
- Mix all of the ingredients for the streusel topping, except for the butter.
- Begin crumbling the butter using a fork.
- Pro Tip: This can be a challenging task, so I used my clean hands to crumble the butter in addition to a fork. Crumbling the butter with the other ingredients helps too.
- Mix and crumble the butter with the dry ingredients with a fork (or with your hands).
- Top muffins with streusel topping and pop them in the oven for about 18 minutes.
- Pro Tip: Stick a toothpick in the center of a large muffin. If the toothpick comes out pretty clean, your muffins are done!
